OCTOBER IS AMERICAN PHARMACISTS MONTH
The Profession of Pharmacy.
Pharmacists all across the nation are trained for immunization administration and education. You may visit the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Immunization Center, which provides the most up-to-date, accurate, and comprehensive information about developing and maintaining an immunization service as well as links to the latest educational materials and resources.
Medication therapy management, also referred to as MTM, is a term used to describe a broad range of health care services provided by pharmacists, the medication experts on the health care team. By utilizing their knowledge, pharmacists are able to make changes to a patients drug therapy which optimizes patient care.
Operation Diabetes is a promotional campaign designed to increase awareness of diabetes and the dangers associated with the disease, provide glucose screening and monitoring, and promote pharmaceutical care in the community. Our goal is not to diagnose diabetes, but rather to provide information to the public in order for them to become more knowledgeable about the disease and to be able to recognize signs and symptoms of diabetes.
Student Pharmacists at the University of the Pacific regularly offer Bone Mineral Density screenings at various health fairs throughout the year. These screenings help patients identify whether or not they are at risk for osteoporosis or bone fractures.
Pharmacists and student pharmacists support the efforts of operation heart to help patients identify and understand their risks for cardiovascular disease through public awareness, community outreach, and patient-specific education on cardiovascular risk factors. Pharmacists and student pharmacists conduct blood pressure screenings alongside cholesterol screenings to calculate a cardiovascular risk score for patients. Through public awareness, community outreach, and patient-specific education on cardiovascular risk factors, student pharmacists and pharmacists can empower patients to take control of their health and prevent cardiovascular disease before it starts.
To recognize the vital contributions made by pharmacists to health care in the United States
To enhance the image of pharmacists as the medication experts and an integral part of the health care team, not just dispensers of medication
To educate the public, policy makers, pharmacists, and other health care professionals about the key role played by pharmacists in reducing overall health care costs by improved medication use and advanced patient care
To stress the importance of Knowing Your Medicine and Knowing Your Pharmacist to ensure drug therapy is as safe and effective as possible.
